The famous Uniroyal Tire was built for the 1964 World’s Fair in New York City. In 1966, it was disassembled and placed in its current location in Allen Park, along I-94.
2 things:
1. i drive by this all the time, and it reminds me of my childhood. i used to live with my cousins at times growing up, mostly in the summer, and they lived off of 94, whereas i grew up off of 75. i remember driving past the uniroyal tire, which truly is fucking huge. at night it is a brilliantly lit sign of detroit. i now live off of 94, and i drive by it constantly. it makes me miss growing up.
2. this is one of my favorite new blogs. i live in detroit, and i love detroit.
Being from West Michigan, my family didn’t make it to Detroit very often, usually only for a Tigers game every couple years. Since the first trip I remember, this gigantic tire became how I recognized we were almost to The D. I still get excited driving by it on the way from Ann Arbor to Detroit.
